The Visionaries Behind the Bank: Our History & Story

While the Late Shri Hargovind Paliwal Memorial Steel Utensil Bank was officially scaled into a public project in July 2025, its transformative journey initially began back in 2023. Driven by a commitment to reduce toxic plastic disposable waste, Dr. Manisha Paliwal and Dr. Yogesh Paliwal started an experimental community setup using just 40 small steel glasses for tea.

The neighborhood responded with strong enthusiasm, embracing the straightforward alternative to single-use options. Recognizing this momentum, they systematically added water glasses and spoons to expand their neighborhood utility stock. This practical toolkit provided a clear alternative to corporate single-use plastic conveniences and kept synthetic waste out of localized municipal path systems.

In July 2025, the initiative stepped into its full public service framework with an expanded inventory of 300 lunch/dinner compartment thalis. Today, it acts as a premier free-to-use resource library available to all organizers throughout Akola, successfully shifting consumer habits away from continuous plastic throwaway loops toward sustainable resource circularity.
